Blood banks and vampires

This afternoon Joff and I are off to donate blood for the first time. So pleased i am finally going to give it a go, i have been wanting to for years but have never got around to it. My sister recently donated and was found to have o negative blood- very sought after. And with my recent time in Emergency you really see the need. The other day during the resuscitation of a 1 year old car accident victim the blood bank rang to say there was only 1 bag of platelets left!

All that plus the recent headlines (below) have finally made me get onto it.

Will let you know how we go. Hopefully it will encourage some of you to donate as well!

Call to give blood as supply levels drop- Sydney Morning Herald

Australians are being urged to give blood, with the Red Cross Blood Service warning it is down to 36 hours' supply.
Around half a million donors currently support the six million people who are hospitalised in Australia each year.
But the Red Cross said demand has increased this year and Australians do not appear willing to meet those needs, with supply now at a dangerously low level.
