San Ignacio

Managed to successfully find my family in Belize City- Yay!

Yesterday arrived in San Ingancio, a quaint little twon near the Guatemalan border. After lunch we headed to the local Mayan Ruins, Cahal Pech, before digging into a delicious authentic Sri Lankan meal-go fingure!

Today we went on a full day tour to ATN caves. Discovered in 1989 and opened in 1991 to the public the cave contains ruins of sacrificial skeletons and pottery from the classical Mayan period of 300-900 BC. It took some hard work to get to them though- 3 river crossings, walking through jungle and mud, swimming through the cave, and climbing over rocks and up ladders. Still it was very impressive and as tired and sore as we are we feel it was a day well spent.

Tomorrow crossing the border to Guatemala and flying to Antigua just in time for christmas
