Melinda and I went to a seminar last night at the State Library put on by Spire
which is a locally based Aid NGO.-
Spire Australia's first 2008 International Development forum is on "Effective development: Challenges, Realities and Steps to Success".
Speakers: Mr Chris Roche - Director of Development Effectiveness, Oxfam
Dr Matthew Clarke - Director - International and Community Development, Deakin University
Dr Chris Hoban - Principal Adviser - Operations Policy Management Unit - AusAID
It was really interesting and well worth going along to after work on a Thursday night. Aid work is something both Min and I are passionate about and interested in doing so we are trying to get a greater breadth of understanding of the industry.
AusAID is the Government's Aid agency in Australia and Dr Hoban was explaining how policy and effectiveness is being examined a lot more closely in recent years as budgeted spending on international aid had quadrupled!
